A HOOLIGAN has been given a football banning order following a coin-throwing incident at the Bury vs Bolton match.

Ryan Gallagher, aged 25, was arrested at the game at Gigg Lane, Bury, on suspicion of throwing coins at away fans.

Gallagher, who is a Bury FC supporter, appeared at Bury Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he was given a three-year football banning order.

Chief Inspector Joanne Marshall-Bell from Greater Manchester Police, who was match commander for the Football League One fixture which Bolton won 2-0, said all fans have the right to attend football matches without fear of violence, no matter how fierce the rivalry with the opposition.

"There is absolutely no excuse to throw missiles at other fans and I hope this banning order will send a clear message that GMP, along with all of our local football clubs, will not tolerate this,” she added.

“Ryan Gallagher thought he could behave in an unacceptable manner and he is now being punished for his actions.”
