A CAR and some wheelie bins were deliberately set alight outside a sheltered housing and retirement complex.
The black Vauxhall Corsa was in a parking bay outside the Musgrave Gardens block of flats off Musgrave Road in Bolton when an arsonist set fire to the vehicle at just before 3.20am today.
A number of wheelie bins stood outside the front of the same property were also targeted.
A crew from Bolton Central Fire Station tackled the blazes and were on scene for an hour.
Crew manager Chris Wilcox said: "We have had quite a few fires in that area in the last few months so one of the things to say is not to leave wheelie bins next to windows.
"If we wouldn't have got there so quickly, the fire could have got to the windows."
The occupants of the property in question were not home at the time of the fire and the car and wheelie bins were both destroyed.
