SUCCESS was celebrated at Sharples High School this week.

The school held its annual presentation evening at which pupils were inspired to believe in themselves and achieve their ambitions by follow Sharples’ motto of “Learn, Dream, Achieve”.

Guest of honour at the Class of 2016 prizegiving evening, which was attended by parents, was Saeed Atcha, who has established links with outgoing American President, Barack Obama and founded the award-winning Xplode magazine.

Mr Atcha, aged 20, presented more than 100 pupils at the school with their certificates and awards.

The Bolton-born radio presenter also set up his own volunteer service to help young people learn interview skills and how to write applications and CVs.

A total of 32 awards were handed out on the night for exceptional performances in individual subjects, plus a number of special awards.

Paraplegic Ismail Patel, who has faced tremendous challenges and is confined to a wheelchair, was awarded the special prize for outstanding performance in maths.

Ismail achieved good GCSE grades and is now on a Business Studies course at college.

Top of the class were pupils Aysha Talati and Ismail Zangaria who gained 20 A* grades between them.

The school showcased its many programmes to ensure its pupils achieved, including a revision holiday to Barcelona for pupils, where they took part in English, maths and science workshops.

The presentation evening was held at The Bridge Conference centre. and was attended by students, their parents and carers, who were entertained by the school choir.

Deputy headteacher Lee Savage said, “It was great to welcome back the Class of 2016 to celebrate their achievements both as a group and individually.

“The evening also provided us with the opportunity to once again wish them good luck for the future.”
