UNEXPLAINED lights which left Boltonians baffled have now been revealed as the workings of a international production company.

Locals may have believed the goings on seen in the sky near Winter Hill in the late hours of Sunday, September 25, were aliens — and they would not be far wrong.

In fact, anyone who approached further would have seen figures in haz-mat suits running around with flash lights as well as a lone motorist stumbling across an alien-like girl seeking sanctuary, all leading to some explosive results.

The strange sightings were in fact all part of the filming for the latest music video from hit Japanese rock band ONE OK ROCK called Taking Off.

Bolton’s countryside takes centre stage for the video, created by town-based production company Sitcom Soldiers.

Studio owner and production team member, Ben Thornley said: “The band really wanted to work with us and we talked about going over to shoot with them but in the end they came over here.

“The external bits were all shot in one long night at a farm off Belmont Road. The idea is the girl is an escaped extra terrestrial and she runs into the guy, overheats in the car and spontaneously combusts.

“We only had one take for explosion, we had to strip out everything so the car was just a shell then blow it up with dynamite.”

Forty people were involved in the making of the video and the band, who were named the Best Japanese Artist of 2017 in the the MTV Europe Music Awards, travelled from Japan to Bolton to film their parts in the studio.

Sitcom Soldiers was set up in 2002 and has worked all over the world and with bands including top British rockers Feeder.

Taking Off was released in October and so far has racked up more than 5,500,000 views on YouTube.
