THE new Bishop of Bolton will officially start his appointment tomorrow when he takes his first service at the parish church.

The Rt Rev Mark Ashcroft will welcome everyone at the 10.30am service which will be attended by children from Canon Slade, Bolton Parish and Bishop Bridgeman schools. The Mayor, Cllr Lynda Byrne will also be in the congregation. Everyone is invited for a glass of wine or a cuppa after the service.

Bishop Mark was consecrated at York Cathedral in October.

The church is holding several festive events starting on Monday, December 12 at 12.15pm when office workers, shoppers and the public are invited to an informal singalong around the Christmas tree with carols, which they can request. The singalong is also on Wednesday, December 14 and Friday, December 16 at the same time.

On Wednesday, December 14, there will be a community carol service starting at 7pm, with Eagley Band.

And the annual town carol service by candlelight with be held on Sunday, December 18, starting at 6pm. It will be led by the vicar of Bolton, Canon Matt Thompson and everyone is welcome.
