A LOT of laughs helped to raise a lot of cash in memory of a former chairman.

Members of Astley Bridge Conservative Club have raised £1,300 at a special charity evening.

The event in October was organised in support of the charity which cared for the club's former concert chairman Billy Brady who died June this year following a battle with prostate cancer.

Current concert chairman Dave Hunter said the club wanted to raise awareness of the "exceptional job that Marie Curie do" which would hopefully lead to further donations.

He added: "Cancer has touched so many lives that it only seemed right we raise money for such a worthy cause.

"Members of the Bolton Fundraising Group, Alun Elliot-Clarke and his wife Ann, attended to collect the cheque and give the members a guide to what the monies raised get used for and, in particular, mentioning that any money raised in Bolton stays in Bolton to help people with terminal illnesses."

The event at the club included music and a comedian, along with raffles and auctions with donations from some local businesses.
