A MAN was stabbed on the main road.
Paramedics took the victim - a man in his early 50s - to Royal Bolton Hospital with what a North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said were "slash wounds" that did not penetrate.
He was found conscious and breathing by an ambulance crew and a doctor in a rapid response vehicle.
It happened at 6.45pm yesterday in front of the Post Office in Tonge Moor Road, Tonge Moor, and staff at the Co-op opposite ran over to help and dial 999.
In a statement, a police spokeswoman said: "Police were called shortly before 6.50pm yesterday to Tonge Moor Road to reports of a stabbing.
"On arrival officers found a man in his 50s who had suffered stab wounds.
"He was taken to hospital and has since been discharged."
A 50-year-old man was arrested by police on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains in police custody.
