A CHARITY launched in honour of a brave Bolton boy is among the organisations nominated by coffee giant Starbucks for a new campaign.

The coffee chain has launched its Red Cup Cheer programme, which aims to raise awareness of 250 charities and award them cash from the company.

The programme is working with social platform Neighbourly.com to connect the charities with people and companies that can help them out.

On this year’s list is the Zak Vali Foundation, the charity started after the death of 15-year-old Lostock lad Zak Vali last year.

Zak lost his long battle with cancer in October last year, but not before the football-mad youngster captured the hearts of the Bolton public as well as sports stars like Amir Khan and Tyson Fury.

Bolton Hospice has also made it on to the list of 250 charities being supported by the scheme this year.

Simon Redfern, vice-president communications at Starbucks EMEA, said: “Red Cup Cheer is all about supporting and celebrating the local charities that mean the most to our customers and partners. We’ve seen fantastic support for Red Cup Cheer and we hope the charities involved enjoy taking part and receiving recognition for the wonderful work they do.”
