BOLTON’S Green party is the latest political group to hit out at the council’s decision to award law firm Asons a grant of £300,000.

Leader Alan Johnson and other party members joined the protest outside the town hall last week, which called for council leader Cliff Morris to step down over the saga.

Mr Johnson said: “We support the Unison argument that rather than give Asons, £300,000 the money could have been better spent on averting some of the cuts to vital services and protecting public service jobs in Bolton.

‘But another big issue with the grant was the total lack of transparency and the deal seemingly being done behind closed doors.”

He also hit out at Labour councillors who unanimously voted against a motion which asked them to disagree with the decision, adding: “Surely some of them have grave reservations reservations about this.”
