Man given community order for entering town

A MAN was given a four-week community order in court.

Ryan Jarvis, of Birch Road, Walkden, received the sentence after breaking a criminal behaviour order that prohibited him from entering a nearby town. He admitted straying into Tyldesley twice between October 25 and 26 at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court.

The 18-year-old will be under a tag curfew. 

Shoplifter stole fragrances worth £800

A YOUNG woman has been given a community order for shoplifting more than £800 worth of fragrances from a department store over two days.

Adriana Porteleckyova, of Manchester Road, Bolton, earlier admitted both the theft of £276 worth of perfume and aftershave on the first day and admitted the theft of £530 of fragrances on the second day.

She stole them on November 15 and 16 at the Wigan branch of Debenhams. The 19-year-old also admitted skipping police bail.

Porteleckyova was sentenced at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court to a 12-month community order.

She must undertake 40 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation of £276.

The court ordered no costs to be paid in order to prioritise the compensation.

Banned driver fined £250

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £250 after he admitted driving while banned and without insurance.

Kristian Horvath, aged 30, of Hatfield Road, Bolton, was caught driving a VW Golf in Percival Street, Bolton on November 10. Horvath was also banned from holding a driving licence for four months and was ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.

Shoplifter sent to jail

A WOMAN with a lengthy record for shoplifting has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison by Bolton magistrates.

Lisa Phelps, aged 34, of Crescent Avenue, Bolton, pleaded guilty to stealing meat and clothing worth a total of £930 from Matalan, Aldi and the Co-op between September 25 and November 28.

The court was told she has an “appalling” record for shoplifting and has failed to comply with community orders.

Phelps was also told she must pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Drink-driver fined after taking car

A DRINK-driver who took a car without permission has been fined.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Granville Sheridan, aged 34, of Buckley Lane, Farnworth, pleaded guilty to driving a Peugeot 206 in Frederick Street, Farnworth, on November 12 having drunk more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.

He admitted having no insurance or licence and taking a vehicle without consent which caused damage in an accident. He was fined £240, ordered to pay £140 costs and was banned from holding a driving licence for 20 weeks.

The court also ordered him to undertake 12 days of rehabilitation activities.

Drug treatment for shoplifter

A THIEF who stole hair clippers from a Bolton store has been ordered to have treatment for drug addiction.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Joss McCaughtrie, aged 23, of Lobelia Avenue, Farnworth, admitted a series of shoplifting offences including stealing the clippers, worth £34 from B&M Bargains as well as cosmetics, cheese, soft drinks, a power drill and a mobile phone from other shops in Bolton.

He was sentenced to have treatment for drug addiction for six months and must undertake 10 days of rehabilitation activities.

McCaughtrie was also ordered by the court to pay a total of £298.89 in compensation.

Man targeted takeaway

TRYING to break into an Indian takeaway led to a man being jailed.

David McGowan, aged 31, changed his plea at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court to admit an attempted burglary at Bengal Cottage in Chorley Old Road, Bolton, on November 25.

McGowan of Rogerstead, Deane — who had a record of several similar offences – was sent to prison for 12 weeks and must pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Addict twice stole fragrances from store

A SHOPLIFTER who was addicted to psychoactive substance Spice stole fragrances from a department store twice in two days.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Connor Ninian, aged 23, admitted theft of a £50 bottle of perfume on September 30 and of a bottle of aftershave worth £70 the following day from Debenhams in Bolton.

Steve Woodman, prosecuting, said Ninian explained his offending to police.

“He was addicted to legal highs and needed the money to buy them,” he said.

Ninian, of Westminster Road, Failsworth, was fined £80 and must pay costs.

Man charged after robberies

A MAN has been charged following a series of knifepoint robberies at off licences in Radcliffe.

Daniel Haynes, aged 28, of Stand Lane, Radcliffe has been charged with nine counts of robbery and nine counts of possession of a bladed article. He appeared before Bury and Rochdale Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was remanded.

Curfew and tag for driver

A BANNED driver has been sentenced to an electronically tagged curfew after he was caught behind the wheel of a Renault Clio in Halliwell Road, Bolton, on September 17.

At Bolton Magistrates Court Billy Howe, aged 33, of Astley Brook Close, Bolton, pleaded guilty to the offence and to having no insurance.

The driving ban had only been imposed a short time earlier.

Howe was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison, suspended for two years and he will be subject to a 8pm to 5am curfew for eight weeks. He must also pay £200 in costs.

Court bans drink driver

A DRINK driver has been banned from the roads for 17 months and fined £400 by Bolton magistrates.

Michael Entwistle, who had drunk almost twice the legal level of alcohol, pleaded guilty to committing the offence whilst driving a Vauxhall Corsa on Bolton Road on November 12.

Entwistle, aged 28, of Hatherlow Court, Westhoughton, was also ordered to pay £125 in costs and charges.

Food thief jailed

A SHOPLIFTER has been jailed for seven months after admitting stealing food.

David Bird, aged 39, of Crumpsall Street, Astley Bridge, pleaded guilty to theft of food, coffee and meat worth more than £300 from the Co-op and meat worth £80 from Sainsburys.

Bolton magistrates heard that, at the time, he was subject to a suspended prison sentence for shoplifting.

Driver had double legal drink levels

A MOTORIST has been banned from holding a licence for 20 months after he was caught drink-driving.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Aitsham Ali, aged 25, of Spa Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to driving a VW Passat in Trinity Street on November 13.

Ali also admitted driving without due care and attention and the court heard he had drunk almost double the legal level of alcohol.

He was also fined £120 and was ordered to pay £115 in costs and charges.
