PRIMARY school pupils hit the right note yesterday as they brought their carol singing to the streets of Bolton.

Pupils from Chorley New Road Primary School sang outside Yorkshire Building Society to help to raise money for Marie Curie.

The 14 children aged eight to 10 were joined by year three teacher Shelley Hudson for a recital of a number of popular Christmas songs in Mealhouse Lane in front of the branch.

The children were invited by the building society to help to raise money for the society’s nominated charity Marie Curie.

Miss Hudson said: “The children have been really excited about performing and have been busy rehearsing learning all of the words.”

The excitable children wore Christmas headbands as they performed to shoppers passing by.

The year three pupils could not wait to showcase their talents, one singer said: “It is getting closer to Christmas and we are so excited, we have worked hard and learnt all the words.

“We are hoping that lots of people come and watch.”

Staff at the society all donned festive knits for the day and donated money.

Mortgage advisor Sam Lomax said: "Marie Curie has been our nominated charity for three years and we always have a Christmas party day.

"We thought it would be nice to get the children down here to sing carols."

Customer representative Shannen Harrison said: “The children are getting everyone in the Christmas spirit because they are so excited.

“It is really nice that schools come down and help us out with our fundraising.”

Yorkshire Building Society launched their Marie Curie fundraising campaign in June 2014 with the aim of raising £500,000 by December 2016.

The society beat their target in 2015 but are continuing to add to their total.
