FOR more than 30 years St Nicolas has been jumping on his sleigh and delighting little and ‘big kids’ alike with a special visit to Westhoughton.

Today’s looking back captures the moment a group of youngsters enjoyed the magic off Christmas one snowy day in December 1982.

The festive treat was organised by members of Westhoughton Rotary Club and saw Santa and his reindeer stopping off at Tesco Horwich to collect for local charities before going on to tour different areas for a week of fundraising.

And the event it is still going strong today with just a little less snow.

Not much has changed from when it first started, St Nic’s sleigh has had an upgrade as have his reindeers with a full size reindeer complete with lights leading the way through the town.

The float tours for ten nights a year visiting various destinations with this year’s event finishing today with visits to Wingates , Church Street and Collingwood Way

And just like in 1982, people continue to take to the streets no matter the weather to welcome Santa Claus to town.
