A MOTORIST has denied killing a community stalwart and grandfather.
Callum Smedley, aged 28, pleaded not guilty to causing the death of Harold Daniels by careless driving.
Mr Daniels, of Spindle Walk, Westhoughton, died after being struck by a car in Chorley Road, Westhoughton, on June 4.
The 82-year-old married MBE recipient was chairman of Westhoughton Community Network and a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Westhoughton.
Smedley, of Wigan Road, Westhoughton, appeared at Bolton Magistrates’ Court yesterday accused of causing Mr Daniels’ death by driving a 2003-reg Citroen C2 without due care and attention.
His case was sent for trial to Bolton Crown Court where there will be a plea and management hearing on January 30.
The magistrates agreed to continue Smedley’s unconditional bail until then.
