AN ELDERLY woman was rescued after collapsing at the top of Rivington Pike.
Bolton Mountain Rescue Team (BMRT) were called at 10.55am today, following reports of a woman collapsed at the hill summit.
The 70-year-old woman was out walking with family when she fainted, before an ambulance was called.
Chris Greenhalgh, deputy team leader of BMRT, said: “She was a regular walker although may have collapsed due to the cold or exhaustion.
“This can happen occasionally and that is what we are here for.
“We were called by the North West Air Ambulance (NWAS) and dispatched three Land Rovers and nine team members to the scene.
“It’s usually difficult to locate people on Rivington Pike but the NWAS took an air ambulance and managed to land right at the top, which is where she was. It was decided we would take the woman to hospital in our Land Rover.
“Our team also took the family she was with back down to their cars.”
Emergency crews spent about 1.5 hours at the scene.
