ROBBERS who broke into a cash machine at a Tyldesley supermarket are reported to have stolen £80,000.

A CCTV video released by Greater Manchester Police show the three robbers start attacking the machine with an angle grinder shortly after 1.20am last Wednesday.

They remained undetected outside Aldi on Castle Street until 2.54am, more than an hour-and-a-half later.

After they had plundered the cash from the machine it burst into flames.

The CCTV footage shows the thieves using the angle grinder to cut their way inside the ATM before loading the cash into a bag from outside the store.

Police were called to the incident at 3.15am, along with fire crews from Atherton, Hindley and Farnworth.

A spokesman for GMP said: "Police were called to a shop on Castle Street to reports of a burglary where three robbers had forced their way into a cash machine."

Firefighters used a hose reel jet, breathing apparatus and a pressure fan to bring the blaze under control.

They were at the scene for about an hour.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 101.
