A CHARITY volunteer from Lithuanian who came to Bolton to work was found hanged, an inquest heard.

Deividas Jodeika, aged 21, was discovered in the kitchen at home in Colwith Avenue, Breightmet, on November 6 last year, with notes apologising to friends and family for taking his own life.

Bolton Coroner’s Court heard that Mr Jodeika moved to Breightmet at the age of 19 alone, to find work and gave his time to volunteering with various charities.

Assistant coroner Rachael Griffin said the delivery driver was a generally happy man who always had a smile on his face.

A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Jodeika had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his blood at the time of his death.

Ms Griffin said: “The traces of cocaine and alcohol in his blood were not at a level to cause death although but it is clear they will have had an effect on his decision making process.”

Mr Jodeika lived with Andrius Nalivaika, also from Lithuanian, whom he originally met in London.

In a statement read to the court, Mr Nalivaika said he was aware his friend had used cocaine in the past.

He said: “I knew he had sniffed white powder although I never saw him sniff it until the night before he died.

“He was mostly happy and smiled a lot although he had mentioned problems that he had been experiencing.”

Ms Griffin added: “He spoke to his brother, Mantas Jodeika occasionally over Skype and approximately three weeks before his death.

“He did work for different charities and it is clear that Mr Jodeika was a very young man who tragically died.

“He left notes on six A4 pieces of paper to family and friends asking them not to be angry or upset.”

She recorded a narrative conclusion that Mr Jodeika “died as a consequence of a ligature around his neck although his intention was unclear”.
