THERE is plenty of drama awaiting theatre audiences this year as two of Bolton’s amateur dramatic companies launch a new season of shows.

Last night visitors to Bolton Little Theatre got a sneak peek at what will be hitting its Hanover Street stages from September.

The theatre starts with tense psychological thriller Dead Guilty before finishing with popular farce Funny Money.

Also hitting its main stage and Forge stage will be Pulitzer Prize drama Rabbit Hole, Alan Ayckbourn’s three set play Absurd Person Singular, the true story of The Pitmen Painters, melancholy comedy The Cemetery Club and intense American drama Agnes of God.

Play production team member Glenn Robinson said: “Having two theatres pus us at the head of the game on the am dram circuit.

“It allows us to do more challenging plays or more risque ones which wouldn’t necessarily be many groups’ first choice.

“We like to have a good balance and variety with plenty for people to enjoy.

“This season has been very well received.”

On Sunday it is Farnworth Little Theatre’s turn, as actors and directors gather to launch its season just a week after celebrating a successful run of gothic thriller The Turn of the Screw.

Chairman Lesley Norris added: “We have been thriving and have been really well supported in Bolton.

“This season has gone very, very well. We seem to have been almost booked up every night.

“Turn of the Screw has been really popular, the set was absolutely stunning and there was such a great spooky atmosphere created.

“We have got a good mix coming up this season of drama and comedy. It will include classics like Arthur Miller but we never reveal what they will be until the launch night.

“There will be something for everyone, we like to have a varied programme to keep both the audience and the actors challenged.”

The FLT launch is at 7.30pm on February 5 at the theatre in Cross Street.
