Burglar’s Christmas Eve theft from salon

A BURGLAR who stole equipment from a town centre hair salon on Christmas Eve received a suspended prison sentence.

David McGrail, of Chorley New Road, Bolton, broke into Regis Hairdressers in Exchange Street, Bolton, on December 25 and took electrical appliances worth a total of £650.

The 40-year-old admitted burglary at Bolton Magistrates’ Court and was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail, suspended for a year.

He was made subject to 12 months of supervision including up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity.

The magistrates noted McGrail had a “substantial record for burglary” and ordered him to pay £300 compensation to the victim business.

Driver fined for no licence 

A MOTORIST has been fined £660 after he admitted driving a Citroen Xsara Picasso without a licence or insurance on Stitch-Me Lane, Harwood, on October 19 last year.

Manchester magistrates also ordered Gabor Balog, aged 51, of Union Road, Bolton, to pay £151 costs.

Sentence for drunk man 

MAGISTRATES have sentenced Kieran O’Brien, aged 30, of Hatherleigh Walk, Bolton, to a conditional discharge for 12 months after he admitted being drunk and disorderly in Bury on December 17 last year.

Cell damage man to do work

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to do 100 hours unpaid work after he admitted damaging a police cell by flooding it and throwing around a meal.

Bolton magistrates heard how damage to the cell at Bury police station on November 8 cost £120 to repair.

Amin Adam, aged 23, of Perendale Rise, Bolton, was also found guilty of assaulting a woman in Bolton on November 6.

In addition to the unpaid work, which Adam must carry out within the next 12 months, he was ordered to pay his female victim £50 compensation as well as contributing £300 towards prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

Court order for razor blade thief

A THIEF who stole razor blades worth £100 from Morrisons supermarket in Bolton on January 11 has been sentenced to have treatment for drug addiction for three months.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court, Lee Kay, aged 28, of St Helens Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to theft of the items.

He also admitted stealing three tins of baby formula, worth £30, from Aldi on January 21.

Magistrates fined him £40 and ordered him to pay £85 towards prosecution costs plus an £85 victim surcharge.

In addition, magistrates told Kay he must participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities.

Rehab order for man who assaulted woman 

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to undertake 40 days of rehabilitation activities after he admitted assaulting a woman on October 13 last year.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Reece Moden, aged 20, of Le Gendre Street, Bolton, was also ordered to spend 24 hours at an attendance centre, pay his victim £50 compensation and £170 in costs and charges.

A restraining order was also made banning him from contacting the woman.

Cannabis sentence

A CONDITIONAL discharge for 18 months has been handed to a man by magistrates after he admitted possessing cannabis on January 6.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Callum Lloyd, aged 20, of Moorfield Grove, Bolton, was also ordered to pay £105 in prosecution costs and charges.

Man admits driving charge

A MOTORIST who pleaded guilty to driving without care and attention and without a licence has been fined by Bolton magistrates.

Desmond Olorunda, aged 48, of Chedworth Crescent, Little Hulton, committed the offences while driving a Nissan Murano in Bolton Road on November 18 last year.

In addition to an £80 fine, six penalty points were added to his driving record and he was ordered to pay a total of £115 in prosecution costs and charges.

Driver drank 3 times legal limit

A DRINK-driver has been sentenced to do 60 hours unpaid work by Bolton magistrates.

Cedric Matiba, aged 27, of Pimlott Road, Bolton, was caught driving a Ford Focus in Great Moor Street, Bolton, on New Year’s Day having drank more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

He pleaded guilty to committing the offence, was banned from holding a licence for two years and must pay £170 in costs and charges.

Threats to police officers

A MAN who used threatening or abusive behaviour towards police officers has been sentenced to do 80 hours unpaid work by Bolton magistrates.

Daniel Bretherton, aged 32, of Castlecroft Avenue, Blackrod, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in Bolton on January 7.

In addition to the unpaid work, Bretherton was ordered to pay £170 in prosecution costs and charges.

Train traveller fined £220

MAGISTRATES fined Patrick Smith, aged 32, of Spinners Mews, School Hill, £220 after he was caught travelling on the train between Bolton and Manchester without a ticket on October 10.

Smith was ordered to pay £180 costs and charges and £4.20 compensation.

Fine for train passenger

A TRAIN passenger who travelled to Manchester Piccadilly on September 13 without a ticket has been fined £220 by Bolton magistrates.

Iain Sambrook, aged 29, of Minorca Street, Bolton, was also ordered to pay £2.10 compensation plus £180 in costs and charges.

Drink-driver crashed

A MOTORIST who crashed while drink-driving has been fined and disqualified from the road.

Zoltan Nesticzki, aged 39, was behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Zafira that struck and damaged a Toyota Yaris in the road where he lived, Wigan Road, Deane, on November 24 last year.

Nesticzki admitted drink-driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, driving without insurance and driving without a licence at Bolton Magistrates’ Court. He was fined £880, ordered to pay £85 costs, £300 compensation and was banned from driving for 14 months.

Burglar broke into gym

A BURGLAR who broke into a gym has been given a 16-week community order with a curfew.

John Walkden, of Blackbank Street, Astley Bridge, entered Total Fitness in Bolton in nearby Waters Meeting Road, The Valley, as a trespasser with intent to steal overnight between September 26 and 27 last year.

The 53-year-old admitted burglary and besides the community order, the court imposed £100 compensation, an £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Burglar jailed for stealing school safe

A BURGLAR who targeted a Radcliffe primary school has been jailed for 26 weeks.

Bury magistrates heard how Craig Douglas, aged 36, of Heathfield Square, Whitefield, entered St Andrew’s primary school on January 22 and stole a safe containing banking documents and cash, estimated to be £300.

Douglas pleaded guilty to burgling the Graves Street school and also admitted damaging a plant pot, worth £20, belonging to a woman on the same day and destroying a wall and fencing belonging to J Hayes.

The court heard the damage to the wall and fence would cost £450 to repair.

Magistrates were told that the offending was more serious because Douglas has a previous criminal record for committing burglaries.

In addition to the jail sentence Douglas was ordered to pay £115 in a surcharge to fund victim services.

But magistrate made no order for him to pay compensation because of his lack of means.
