A BAND is celebrating after being awarded almost £10,000 in lottery cash.
St Andrew’s Bolton Pipes and Drums have been awarded the grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
The band will invest the money in lightweight drums and cases, waterproof uniforms, transport costs and media equipment. The new funding will also provide social activities not only for the members, but for those throughout the local community.
The band formed on St Andrew’s Day in 2015 and is made up of mature pipers and drummers. They are now on the lookout for new members.
Alec Bingham, band secretary, said: “We have tried to encourage pipers and drummers who perhaps thought their playing days were over, to join us at practice nights twice a week, and group performances in schools, clubs and other local events.”
He added: “This new equipment means that as a group we feel part of a more worthwhile and recognised team.”
The Big Lottery Fund distributed 40 per cent of money raised by National Lottery players. Every year it invests over £650 million and awards around 12,000 grants across the UK for health, education, environment and charitable causes.
