TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a man who fell ill and was treated by paramedics later died.

An ambulance crew were called to the house in Emmanuel Place in Deane at 11.35am today to treat a man who as unwell although it has not been disclosed what his ailment was.

Police said there was what they would only describe as a "disruption inside the property" and it forced the clinicans to seek police support.

It is understood the paramedics had just arrived or were tending to the victim when they needed to withdraw from the home and call colleagues.

Police officers who arrived gained entry to the house and discovered a man unconscious but breathing.

Paramedics administered treatment but the man sadly died shortly afterwards. His age and name have not been revealed.

Detective Inspector Danny Brophy said: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and are continuing to make detailed enquiries to establish the circumstances which led to this death.”

A 41-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remain in police custody for questioning.

A Home Office post-mortem examination is due to take place in the coming hours to establish the exact cause of the man’s death.
