PERFORMERS took to the stage and attempted to win the judges’ hearts as Sing Bolton Sing entered its second week.

Talented singers could be heard at Bolton Market Place as they tried to get through to the next round of the town’s X-Factor-style competition.

There were several eye-catching performances during Saturday’s spectacle, including seven-year-old Evelyn Powell, whose performances of A Part of Your World (Little Mermaid) and Consider Yourself (Oliver) won praise from the four judges.

The little Worsley girl said: “I was really nervous but it was exciting. I’m really happy.”

She said if she won the £10,000 prize she would treat her family to a trip to Disney World in Florida.

Her proud mother Claire said: “I was more nervous than she was but I thought she did brilliant. It’s a great experience for her and a great opportunity to build her confidence.”

Niomi Harris, aged 22, also wowed the audience with her performances of Black Velvet and Don’t Rain on My Parade.

The judges praised the singer but noticed that she was nervous, something Miss Harris admitted afterwards.

Miss Harris, whose influences include Beyonce and Stevie Wonder, said: “I think it could have gone a lot better mostly because I was really, really nervous.

“The judges were really nice with their comments but obviously thought I needed more stage presence because of the nerves.”

But the star of the afternoon was 22-year-old Zack Thornley, who has already been touted as a potential winner and even brought judge Cathy Savage to tears.

He said: “I think it went very well. I have done musicals from a very young age, about 10-years-old. I just love performing on stage and the adrenaline rush is amazing.

“The comments from the judges were phenomenal. I didn’t expect anything like that and I especially didn’t expect to reduce one of the judges to tears.

“I’m hoping to be in it to win it. I do hope I have got what it takes to get to the top.”

The next round of auditions for Sing Bolton Sing will take place on Saturday.
