A MOSQUE is hoping to transform a plot of vacant land in Farnworth into a car park.
The Sughra Mosque, in Granville Street, has submitted plans to erect a car park with 26 spaces in nearby Egerton Street.
The applicants say that the additional parking provision would be “much-welcomed” in the town and would not be detrimental to the surrounding area.
A statement submitted to Bolton Council’s planning office with the application said: “The site currently attracts fly-tipping and is poorly maintained, including the adjacent alleyway.
“The site appears to be the site of previously demolished buildings which have been turfed over.
“There are several major local public green spaces including Moses Gate Country Park and Farnworth Central Park, so the loss of this area will not have a detrimental effect on the area.”
Neighbours are currently being consulted on the plans.
