Police have made an arrest following a fire at a church in Salford.
At 11.20pm on Sunday, February 12, police were called by the fire service after a fire broke out at the Church of Ascension on Broughton Lane, Lower Broughton.
An investigation was launched and officers are treating the incident as arson.
A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been bailed until 30 March 2017.
Detective Sergeant Karl Dalton, of GMP’s Salford Borough, said: “We have tasked a team of detectives with this investigation and made significant progress since the large fire took hold and destroyed the church.
“I would like to thank the public for their support which has helped us make some positive steps forward following our appeal for information on Monday.
“However, we are continuing to investigate and it is still vital that anyone with information gets in touch as soon as possible.
“In particular, we need to speak with anyone who may have seen a group of youths on bikes near to the church around the time of the fire.”
Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 5461 or 101 and quote the reference number 2352 of 12/02/17, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
