CAMPAIGNERS will be speaking out against Donald Trump’s proposed state visit to the UK in a town centre protest this evening.

As part of protests taking place up and down the country today, the Bolton Stands Up to Racism group will be campaigning on the steps of Bolton Town Hall at 6pm.

The event, supported by Bolton Green Party and other organisations, is backing calls for the US president to be denied a full state visit to the UK, not that he should not prevented from entering the country at all.

More than 1.8 million UK residents have signed a petition, to be debated in Parliament today, saying that granting Mr Trump a full state visit would cause embarrassment to the Queen.

The petition gained popularity after Mr Trump introduced a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries last month.

The Bolton Stands Up to Racism group was launched earlier this month with a public rally at which Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South, was one of the speakers.
