A MARKET showcasing the skills of Bolton's youngsters is returning for 2017.

The Teenage Market will be giving young people an opportunity to show off their business ideas, as well as musical and dramatic talents, over three different dates this year.

It hit the town twice last year and became a popular fixture for traders and shoppers.

Limited places are still available at the first event on Victoria Square on March 4, from 10am to 4pm.

Anyone aged 13 to 25 is invited to take part and it will also be held on May 13 and September 23.

Cllr Cliff Morris, leader of Bolton Council, said: "The markets were very popular last year so I am delighted that we can once again give young people a free platform to showcase their business talents and creative skills.

"We’ve already had lots of interest but there is still time to register and we’ll try to accommodate as many people as we can.

"Our experienced staff from Bolton Market will also be on hand to help and support them."

A total of 17 independent entrepreneurs have already signed up and will be selling items ranging from cakes, chocolates to jewellery and crafts.

Bolton Lads and Girls Club, YMCA Bolton, Bolton Youth Council and Castle Hill Youth Centre will also be trading at the event.

As well as new ventures, the market also gives young people who might already be trading online a chance to trade in the town centre and get a feel for what it is like to work in a market environment.

The Teenage Market is a nationwide initiative set up by teenage brothers Joe and Tom Barratt as a way to support local young people and transform town centres,

Last year, Bolton Council organised two successful markets with the brothers.

Co-creator of The Teenage Market, Joe Barratt, added: "We are delighted that Bolton Council is holding these markets and supporting young people. It’s the perfect place for them to get their businesses off the ground and showcase their creative talents."

Deadline for applications is Friday.
