A MAN has been arrested and bailed after officers attended a house in Farnworth.

Police attended an address in St James Street on Friday and arrested a 56-year-old man on suspicion of an offence contrary to the Explosives Substances Act.

He was later bailed until May 26.

A Police spokesman said: "The investigation is ongoing and there are no wider concerns for public safety."

A bomb disposal team, police and men in hazard suits have attended a house in Farnworth.

Officers have been at a property in since around 8pm last night.

A fire engine and fire officer are also in attendance.

Officers in white hazard suits and respirators have been seen in the garden of the property this afternoon running tests on unknown substances.

Residents reported seeing a Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal unit outside the house in the early hours of the morning.
