TWO of Bolton’s young leaders helped to crown the winners of the Prince of Wales’ Youth United Awards at Buckingham Palace.

Saeed Atcha and Meg Kneafsey were alongside Prince Charles, who is patron and founder of the Youth United Foundation, and were joined by 300 guests to celebrate social action undertaken by uniformed youth groups for those aged 10 to 20.

At the celebration, The Girls’ Brigade, Sea Cadets and Girl Guiding groups were amongst the winners and projects given awards for their commitment to their local community.

Saeed and Meg were on the judging panel as part of the Step Up to Serve campaign

Saeed was at Ladybridge High School when he set up youth charity Xplode magazine, aged 15, and his project has gone on to receive the Queen’s award for Voluntary Service.

Meg studied at Canon Slade before graduating at Durham University where she has volunteered and campaigned on a number of issues from food poverty to Brexit. Meg said: “There was a great atmosphere on the day as young people from across the UK got together to celebrate their community spirit.

“I was really happy to see the groups after reading about their amazing endeavours”

Saeed added: “It’s so nice to see young people celebrating their efforts in such beautiful settings in Buckingham Palace.

“It was really difficult to choose between the groups because they’ve all done amazing things to support their communities and His Royal Highness has always championed young people who do something challenging and rewarding in the service of others.”
