YOUNG Michaela Ormrod is a book worm in every sense of the world.

The nine-year-old from Bradshaw has crawled her way through nearly 1,000 books which she has borrowed from her local library.

Michaela, a pupil at St Maxentius School, joined the library at the tender age of one — and would insist on borrowing the maximum number of 10.

“I always have a book on me,” she said, “I read during my lunchtimes and break-times.

“I like it because you use your imagination to create the world.”

She added: “The first book I remember borrowing was a cook book — I liked to read the recipes and I do like cooking.”

The keen reader says JK Rowling his her favourite author and she also likes Roald Dahl and David Walliams.

Michaela said: “My favourite character is Nikki Maxwell in Dork Diaries and she is my World Book Day character.”

Mum believes her eldest daughter’s love of reading stems from her reading to her while she was still in the womb.

Mum Claudia Ormrod said: “We were in Harwood Library and the librarian called Michaela over and showed her she had borrowed 911 books, but since then she has borrowed 20 or 30 books since and also borrows from the school library.

“I went to classes when I was pregnant with Michaela and they said to read to the baby, I did everything they said.

“She joined the library at about one and would always want to borrow ten books — and sometimes I would have to take the same book out again and again.

“Sometimes when she goes to bed and I switch the light off, I have caught her reading with a torch!”

And books don’t just  set Michael’s imagination on fire, she says they help studies.

Michaela added: “I still like my mum to read to me and I enjoy reading to my younger sister Amanda.”
