MORE than 20 people braved the cold and rain to walk 21 miles to raise money to help a youngster fight cancer.

Victoria Clare from Heaton was so touched after seeing and reading media reports about Kyle Buckley, from Deane, who is fighting his third battle against cancer, she organised a fundraising trek.

His family are raising money to fund pioneering treatment.

Mrs Clare said: “I wanted to do something.

“It started off with me, my husband, son and friends doing the walk.

“I set up a justgiving page and we had others wanting to take part. In total 23 took part — people we did not know. Kyle’s mum, her sister and friends also joined the walk. I had met Kyle’s family before the walk.

“We are all friends for life now.”

The walk started at just after 10am by Asda in Astley Bridge, up to Belmont to the roundabout and rested their weary bodies at The Wilton Arms.

Mrs Clare, aged 30, said: “It was exactly 21 miles. My son Jack, who is eight-years-old. did 10 miles with the dog, Simba. My husband Daniel and I finished at 5pm and everyone was back at around 5.30pm.” She added: “Everyone was okay and it was well worth the pain.”

Together they raised £2,684.34.

Now Mrs Clare is organising a sky dive for people to take part in to boost funds further — and is hoping to meet Kyle at a family fun day.

Kyle, who attends St Bede’s Primary in Morris Green, spent two years undergoing intense chemotherapy in order to overcome rhabdomyosarcoma and now after his third diagnosis his family are determined to fight the deadly disease.

Just three months after being given the official all clear from the doctors, the 11-year-old and his family were told the cancer had returned.

Now a huge fundraising campaign entitled Make Kyle Smile has been started and is being supported by people and organisations from across Bolton.
