A FORMER pub which looked set to be given a new lease of life has been left ‘ugly and lifeless’.
Last year, work was started to convert the former Three Pigeons pub in Astley Bridge into a restaurant and bar.
But at a meeting of the Astley Bridge Area Forum, an area councillor said: “Nothing is happening with the Three Pigeons.”
Responding to a question about the building’s future, Cllr Hilary Fairclough said: “It’s an ugly, lifeless building.
“It’s very difficult. It’s a focal point of Astley Bridge and it’s an eyesore."
She added that six flower troughs had been put there to try and brighten it up.
The pub was bought by Nick Howcroft in 2011 and residents have frequently questioned what work was taking place.
Last year Mr Howcroft said that the plan was to open the restaurant and bar in 2017. Seven new flats were also built at the back as part of the plan.
Mr Howcroft also said last year that while he understands why residents are eager to see progress everything must also be done correctly.
