OLYMPIC gold medallist Nicola White will be opening the Greater Manchester School Games next week.

Fourteen schools, both primary and secondary, from Bolton will be competed in the annual sporting event with the opening ceremony taking place on March 21.

Schools taking part from Bolton are Egerton Primary School, St Michael's CE Primary School, St Thomas of Canterbury RC, The Orchards, Clevelands Preparatory School, St Brendan's RC Primary School, Claypool Primary School, Turton School, St James CE Daisy Hill, St Bartholomew's CE Primary, St James High School and Bolton School.

Students from Bolton will also be volunteering to help at hockey, swimming and water polo.

They will be among 2,000 pupils taking part in 15 sports across 11 venues, including Sport City and the National Cycling Centre.

We are delighted to welcome Nicola, Beth, Dan, Holly and Hazel to the event alongside our competitors and volunteers."

Olympian Nicola added: "I’m privileged to be able to attend and open the Greater Manchester School Games. Events like these are so important in their sporting journey.
