SINGERS have taken to the stage once again to showcase their voices in Bolton biggest talent contest.

Now in its seventh week — with just two more weeks of auditions to go — performers continued to impress judges and shoppers at Market Place alike in the Sing, Bolton Sing contest.

More than 30 people of all ages auditioned over the weekend in bid to win the £10,000 prize.

The competition is being is organised by the shopping centre along with Bolton FM and The Bolton News.

Those taking to the stage included Caroline Bond, who is a familiar face on the amateur dramatics scene as part of the Adlington Players Company.

She sang Over the Rainbow and I Dream a Dream.

The 29-year-old, from Chorley, said: “It was a bit nerve wracking at first but it got better.

“My mum entered me for the competition.”

She added: “I would like to be a singer, I have two children, but I would like to get there.”

Judges praised her performance.

Alex Gilston said: “That was just incredible, I think it one of the best version of I Dream a Dream I have heard.”

Strangers also approached her to praise her performance.

Sarah Luctas, aged 33, from Bromley Cross did not let a cold stop her from going on stage to sing Whitney Houston’s Greatest Love of All and Mariah Carey’s A Hero Lies in You to prove she was a hard act to follow.

She said: “I chose these two songs because they are easy songs for me to do.”

Judge Cathy Savage said: “That was amazing. It takes a good singer to take on Whitney and you did it!”

Trisha Chantelle, aged 25 from Breightmet, brought her Amy Winehouse tribute act to the stage to perform Valerie.

She said: “I really enjoyed it, I like everything about Amy Winehouse.”

Saturday was the last day for people to put themselves forward for auditions.

Mrs Savage, marketing and events manager at the Market Place, said: “The talent competition has been so popular.”
