RESIDENTS are being urged to remain vigilant after a spate of vehicle crime.

There has been a sharp rise in the number of thefts from vehicles, particularly in parts of Deane and Daubhill.

Residents are being urged to be prepared in a bid to reduce the chances of their property being targeted.

There have been reports of a number of car wing mirrors being removed as well as number plates stolen and other damage to cars.

Police said there have been 79 offences reported across the area since the start of the year, with 59 of these classed as theft from a motor vehicle.

The majority has been car wing mirrors or registration plates being taken.

Police in the area say they are working to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and four arrests have been made already this month for vehicle crime.

Two people having been charged with vehicle related offences.

Officers added that there are two others who are subject to police bail while investigations are continuing.

Police are visiting crime hot spots in the area over the next couple of weeks to speak to residents and provide advice on steps that can be taken to reduce the chance of your property being targeted.

Police will be handing out number plate screws and vehicle crime packs to residents.

Sergeant Kevin Lister, from Bolton police, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for your ongoing support.

“Numerous bits of valuable information have been received from the community which has helped us to progress the pro-active work of the team.

“If anybody knows about someone selling wing mirrors or other items such as jewellery or electrical goods that you think could be stolen, they are asked to contact us immediately.”
