A SCHOOLBOY is recovering after suffering a broken leg after being hit by a car during rush hour on Thursday.

The 12-year-old Turton High School pupil was struck by a Honda Civic in Turton Road, in Bromley Cross while it is thought he was walking with a friend around 4.30pm.

The youngster, who is in year seven, is now recovering in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

Teachers from the Bromley Cross school went to the scene to help after the accident happened.

Sam Gorse, headteacher said: "He has broken his leg and will be off school for some time, but it won't cause him any long term problems.

"His mother has been in school and was okay, she was understandably very shaken up when the incident happened.

"The boy was with a friend when the accident happened. We phoned her, and two teachers looked after the little ones who were in her car."

Ms Gorse praised the paramedics who took the boy to hospital by air ambulance.

A police spokesman yesterday said that the boy’s condition was not serious.

Police added that there have been no arrests in connection with the crash and the driver of the car remained at the scene.
