STARS from Bolton appeared on BBC’s Red Nose Day show and did their part to help the nation raise more than £70million for Comic Relief.

Comedian Peter Kay and broadcaster Sara Cox made appearances on the marathon programme on Friday night as the nation donated £71,308,475 to help fight poverty across the world.

As well as popping up as a presenter, Mrs Cox was filmed visiting charity worker Lorna in Nairobi.

Through Lorna she met Godfrey, a 10-year-old boy who has lost both his father and his mother.

But the tragedy hadn’t stopped there for Godfrey, as the three visited the remains of Godrey’s family home, which was burned down.

In an emotional plea, Mrs Cox said to the camera: “If it wasn’t for you helping people like Lorna, I don’t know what would happen to such a sweet, smart little boy like that.

“And there’s so many boys like that. He’s not by himself. There are so many families who are like this. We’ve just go to try and help.”

Her appearance comes less than a week after she undertook a 24-hour danceathon at the BBC Radio 2 studios, raising more than £1million.

Meanwhile, a special look back at Peter Kay’s most famous Comic Relief moments was broadcast on the show as well as a trailer for the latest Car Share series.

In aid of Red Nose Day, Vue cinemas across the UK will be hosting a special night of Car Share on Friday, featuring never-before-seen footage, outtakes and the premiere of the first two episodes of series two.
