HORWICH Funeralcare held an open day to celebrate its official launch.

Members of the community were invited to the event, including mayor of Horwich Cllr Jim Bullock, who officially opened the branch with the president of Co-op's National Members' Council Nick Crofts.

The entrance ribbon was cut and the commemorative plaque was unveiled at the Lee Lane premises before Reverend Michael Behrend performed a blessing.

A special Land Rover hearse was on display and the crowd was also treated to music from the local brass band Integra Brass.

There were also several fundraising activities throughout the day, including a raffle and name the teddy competition.

The money raised will be donated to Horwich Hub, Horwich Visiting Service and Horwich Heritage.

Tracey Harrison, funeral director for Horwich Funeralcare, said: “We wanted to let the local community know that we’re here to support them, so an open day seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce ourselves.

“The hearse and entertainment certainly drew a crowd and we’re thrilled that the fundraising activities were such a success.

"The money raised will go to some very deserving community causes, and we’d like to thank everyone who attended to support us.”
