MUSIC could be heard echoing around the chambers of the Victoria Hall at the second night of Bolton Music Centre Presents 2017.

In an attempt to outdo the previous night's talent, the young musicians performed a range of well-known classical tracks as well as modern music and theatre numbers.

First on was Bolton Junior Youth Orchestra, who kicked off the night with Mambo from West Side Story before playing In the Hall of the Mountain King and Two Celtic Dancers.

Ladybridge and Turton Junior Strings then did their part with Wade in the Water and When Michael Rowed the Saints Ashore.

Then Bolton Training Brass Band came on to play Prince of Denmark March, Yesterday and Penny Lane.

Kearsley West and Holy Infants and St Anthony Primary Schools played Brass Fund, C Jam Blues and Achy Breaky Heart.

Up next was Bolton Acoustic Guitar Ensemble with Say You Won't Let Go and Gonna Fly Now.

Then Kearsley Band, Farnworth Band, St Matthew's (Little Lever) Training Band and St Bede's Primary Academy Band got together to treat the audience to Welcome Song, In The Forest and Camptown Races.

Bolton Beginner Percussion Ensemble, whose youngest member was six-years-old, then came on with Oy Como Va before Little Lever Training Choir then sung Ain't No Mountain High Enough and I'm Still Singing.

Bolton Youth Brass Band rounded off the night with Birdland, Skyfall and The Pioneers.

The event is taking place every night of the week with Thursday night's concert at Victoria Hall beginning at 6.30pm.

Bolton Music Service, which is currently teaching around 8,000 children to play a musical instrument through its work in schools.

The group uses it to show off the work of the weekly 35 bands, choirs and orchestras.

The service runs 35 bands, choirs and orchestras for children and young people every week.

And it also supports schools in the delivery of the national curriculum by providing training for teachers, projects for schools and a range of curriculum development opportunities.

Six areas are available to students: orchestras, brass bands, concert bands, contemporary, jazz and percussion, choral and community ensembles.
