Community order for teen

A TEENAGER has been handed a community order after being carried in a car he knew had been taken without the owner’s consent.

David Warren, age 19, of Beechcroft Avenue, Bolton, pleaded guilty at Bolton Magistrates’ Court to knowing that a Ford car had been taken without the consent of the owner and allowed himself to be carried in it on November 18 2016.

A part of his community sentence he was ordered to visit an attendance centre for 20 hours before September 21 2017.

He was also told he must pay a victim surcharge of £85 plus costs of £85.

Tagged curfew order for benefit cheat

A BENEFIT cheat has been ordered to wear an electronic tag during a 10 week curfew after admitting his guilt.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Stefan Lakatos, aged 32, of Woodgate Street, Bolton, admitted failing to notify the authorities that his partner Darina Zuzikova was in paid employment.

As a result Lakatos claimed housing benefit and jobseekers allowance he was not entitled to from June 4 2015 to March 23 2016.

In addition to a 7pm to 5am curfew Lakatos was ordered to pay £170 in costs and charges.

Delivery van thief in court

MAGISTRATES have handed a thief a suspended prison sentence after he admitted taking a Yodel Nissan Prima delivery van in Bolton on August 19 last year, stealing parcels, an iPhone and Apple watch and having no insurance.

Christopher Taylor, aged 31, of Ranelagh Road, Pendlebury, was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail, suspended for 18 months, must do 150 hours unpaid work, participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £500 in compensation.

Three-year road ban for drink-driver

A DRINK-driver has been banned from the roads for three years by magistrates.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court John Anderson, aged 50, of Tetbury Drive, Bolton, pleaded guilty to driving a Volvo in Breightmet Fold Lane, Breightmet, on March 12 having drunk more than twice the legal level of alcohol.

In addition to the driving ban, Anderson was ordered to pay a £360 fine as well as £85 towards prosecution costs and a £36 victim surcharge.

Work order for motorist

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to do 200 hours unpaid work after he was caught driving a car whilst banned.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Gary Boote, aged 26, of Ramwells Brow, Bromley Cross, pleaded guilty to committing the offence and having no insurance whilst driving an Audi A3 on Ramwells Brow on March 13.

In addition to the unpaid work sentence, Boote was banned from applying for a driving licence for four months.

He was ordered to pay £85 towards prosecution costs and was also told he must pay a £115 victim surcharge.

18-month ban for driver

MAGISTRATES have banned a man from applying for a driving licence for 18 months after he was caught committing motoring offences.

Darren Lewis, aged 21, of Hunger Hill Avenue, Bolton, pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Corsa on Hunger Hill Avenue, Bolton, on February 10 without a licence or insurance.

He also admitted having taken illegal levels of cannabis for driving.

He was fined £100 and ordered to pay a total of £115 in costs and charges.

Crash driver sentenced

A DRIVER who was involved in a car crash after taking a vehicle without the owner’s permission has been sentenced to do 150 hours’ unpaid work.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Scott Mallalieu, aged 31, of Parkfield Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to committing the offence as well as having no licence or insurance.

The court heard that he was caught driving a Vauxhall Insignia on Derby Street, Bolton, at its junction with Ramsbottom Street on October 31 last year.

In the crash the driver of a Vauxhall Astra was injured and damage to the vehicles amounted to more than £5,000.

As well as the unpaid work, Mallalieu was banned from holding a driving licence for 12 months and ordered to pay a total of £170 in costs and charges.

Woman had bags of drugs

A CONDITIONAL discharge for 12 months has been given to a woman who was caught with nine snap bags of cannabis.

At Bolton Magistrates Court Sarah Snee, aged 31, of Singleton Avenue, Horwich, pleaded guilty to possessing the drug and was also ordered to pay £105 in costs and charges.

Drink-driver must do unpaid work

A DRINK-driver has been sentenced to 120 hours’ unpaid work.

At Bolton Magistrates Court Israel Karenga, aged 25, of Dunbar Drive, Bolton, admitted driving a Ford Fiesta in Winward Street, Bolton, on March 15 having consumed more than twice the legal alcohol limit. In addition to the unpaid work, Karenga was banned from holding a driving licence for 24 months and must pay £170 in costs and charges.

Fail-to-stop driver jailed for 4 months

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a driver to four months in prison, suspended for 12 months after he admitted failing to stop for police.

Ryan Bramhall, aged 24, of Sofa Street, Bolton, was driving a Vauxhall Astra in Brunel Street, Horwich, on October 22 when he committed the offence.

Bolton magistrates heard that, at the time, he was already subject to a suspended prison sentence.

Bramhall also admitted failing to stop after a collision with a Nissan Note, which resulted in serious damage, in Chorley Old Road, and failing to report an accident.

He was banned from holding a driving licence for nine months and was ordered to pay a total of £200 in costs and charges.

Washroom products thief

A THIEF who stole washroom products on March 27 has been sentenced to do 60 hours unpaid work.

At Bolton Magistrates Court Callum Warburton, aged 21, of Rochester Avenue, admitted taking the goods belonging to the PHS Group.

He was also ordered to participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities and must pay £170 in costs and charges.

Brandy thief has to pay £500

A THIEF who stole a bottle of brandy from a Bolton store and damaged a glass door has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for two years.

At Bolton Magistrates Court Kevin Lee, aged 41, of Savick Avenue, Bolton, pleaded guilty to taking the brandy, worth £11 and causing damage, estimated at £500, to the door at the Aldi supermarket. Magistrates ordered him to pay the shop £500 compensation.

Man with knife is jailed for nine weeks

A MAN caught carrying a knife in public has been jailed for nine weeks.

At Bolton Magistrates’ Court Jake Worsley, aged 24, of Mytham Road, Little Lever, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on March 26.

The court heard that Worsley had been drinking and was already subject to a suspended prison sentence when he was caught with the knife, which had a retractable blade. He must pay a £115 victim surcharge.

Woman admits offensive and upsetting Facebook messages 

A WOMAN who repeatedly harassed a man via Facebook has been given a suspended prison sentence by Bolton magistrates.

The court heard that Kathryn Walker sent numerous “offensive and upsetting” Facebook messages to the friends and family of Bryan Clarkson between July 25 and August 11 last year.

Magistrates heard that Walker, aged 48, of Sindsley Grove, Bolton, had been warned about her behaviour but persisted, causing distress.

She pleaded guilty to harassing Mr Clarkson and magistrates sentenced her to 10 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.

Walker will be supervised by the probation service for 12 months and must participate in rehabilitation activities for 30 days.

She was also ordered to pay £200 in costs and charges and a restraining order was made banning her from contacting Mr Clarkson.

Man is banned from begging

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge for two years after he was caught begging in Bolton.

The case against Robert Durbin was proved in his absence at Bolton Magistrates Court.

The court heard that he was begging beside Asda at Burden Retail Park on October 22, November 4 and 7 last year.

In addition to the conditional discharge, magistrates made a criminal behaviour order for two years banning Durbin from begging in Bolton town centre or at Burnden Retail Park.
