PEEL Brow celebrated a five star hygiene rating with a parents lunch.

The school and nursery received the rating after a Food Standards Agency spot check earlier in the month.

Rachel Johnson, the catering manager, said: "We were delighted to achieve a five star food rating from our visit as it's always nerve-wracking to know your day to day work is being checked."

The school hosts regular parents lunches through the year with menus including lasagne, roast turkey, green vegetables and salad bar.

The lunches are often themed around work the children are doing at school.

In February the theme was cowboys and the menu included a turkey roast and "cowboy pie", sausage, beans and mash.

Mrs Johnson, a chef for Mellors Catering, added: "The parents lunches mean they can sample the food and can see what we are giving the kids.

"All the food is fresh and we have our own butchers and a salad bar everyday where they can help themselves."

Headteacher Danny Mellor, said: "Mellors Catering have set and maintained an exceptionally high standard of cleanliness and service within the school.

"On top of that, their staff are friendly and reliable and we feel fortunate to benefit from their catering professionalism."

The FSA inspector gave the primary school a 'good' rating in all three safety areas, handling, cleanliness and management of food.
