THIS picture was taken in Horwich in 1955.
Most people will recognise the scene as it’s the, now, very busy junction at the Crown.
Back in 1955 it was clearly a very different road as we can see a woman with a group of schoolchildren crossing the road at a very precarious position and one we would not recommend crossing today.
It looks as if the children may well be from a local school but it is impossible to say which one, although perhaps readers can help identify it. The houses on the right remain and the architecture of the road looks very similar today, making the spot easily recognisable.
Our old photographs are always very popular with readers and we love to hear from readers who have memories of the area we are focusing on.
Do you have Horwich memories and memories, in particular, of this particular part of the town?
