A LABOUR fundraiser brought together a variety of communities to enjoy a taste of Bollywood.

The 'extravaganza' held at the Polish Club in Back East Street drew around 100 people to see performances including 14-year-old Hafsa Syed from Bolton and Trishool Dance Academy from Leeds .

There was also the opportunity for the public to try their hand at some of the dances.

Councillor Tamoor Tariq, said: "It was a Labour party fundraiser but it became a wider community event."

He added: "It was really enjoyable evening.

"There were people that were familiar with Bollywood and those that weren't, they all mixed in.

"It was just the good sense of community cohesion which came out of the event, we had people who had never come to a Bollywood event before, who were able to join in.

"They had a really fun time and it wasn't what they expected.

"There were lots of great acts and people were joining in, dancing away."

Bradford MP Naz Shah also attended the fundraiser, she gave a speech about her history, being the daughter of a woman jailed for killing a man who abused and raped her.

Cllr Tariq said: "She is somebody who has seen a lot and she is quite relevant."
