A HOUSE was evacuated after a fire broke out in the living room in the early hours of this morning.

Two adults and three children escaped the property in Grosvenor Street, Kearsley, when the blaze broke out next to the fish tank.

It is believed the fire was caused by an electric fault in the tank’s wires.

Three fire engines from Farnworth and Bolton were called to the house at 2.15am were firefighters tackled the blaze and made the scene safe.

Residents were believed to not have suffered any injuries but were treated by crews from the North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

The fire was isolated to the area of the tank but the room suffered some fire and smoke damaged.

Farnworth watch manager Carl Haslam said: “Five people managed to get themselves out of the property when they were alerted to the fire by the smoke alarm.

“The cause is likely to be electrics behind the fish tank.

“I would like to remind people of the need to have smoke alarms in properties and how important they are. They are available and fitted for free through the fire service.”
