SINGERS wowed the judges in the semi-finals of Sing, Bolton Sing as they competed to get one step closer to the £10,000 prize.

The judges were once again impressed during the search for Bolton's best vocal talent at the Market Place on Saturday.

The winner of the whole competition will take away the £10,000 prize with £3,000 and £1,000 for the two runners up.

This week 14-year-old Maddy Erzen-Essien from Bradshaw, was told her voice was ‘effortless’ and it was going to ‘take her places’.

The Canon Slade High School pupil said: “I’ve been going to singing lessons since I was eight and I’ve sang in front of crowds before but each time it’s still quite nerve-wracking.

“I was pleased with what the judges had to say about my voice so it would be amazing if I was to win.

“I think I’d save the money to go travelling when I’m old enough or maybe take my family away with me.

“I’ve just really loved the experience of singing in the competition so I’m just glad to have been able to come this far.”

Caroline Bond also took to the stage in the X Factor style competition when she sang And I’m Telling You by Dream Girls and Anything to Hold On To by Scott Alan.

The mother-of-two from Chorley, who is training to be a counsellor, said: “I Scott Alan’s song because of its meaning.

“It’s to do with mental health and as I’m training to be a counsellor it’s quite close to my heart.

“I love singing and I believe in the song and its lyrics. In this day and age mental health shouldn’t have the stigma attached to it that it does.

“Getting up there was quite nerve-wracking but I enjoyed it and if I was to win it would be amazing to have the recognition that I can sing.”

The final will be held on Saturday, May 13.
