ROAD safety campaigner Warren Fox will stand as the Liberal Democrat candidate for Bolton North East in this year's snap General Election.

Mr Fox, a member of Bolton Road Safety Group, will be standing in the Labour safe seat held by Sir David Crausby.

Mr Fox, aged 32, who lives in Astley Bridge, says he will stand up for the "issues that really matter to the people of Bolton North East".

He said:"It is an honour to be the candidate for Bolton North East, an area I am very proud to call my home. I look forward to getting out on the doorstep meeting people and fighting against a Tory hard-Brexit and a divided Labour Party without any clue or direction.

"I'm the only candidate who will focus on the things that really matter to the people of Bolton North East, fighting for more funding for our vital local services and to revitalise our town. I will put forward the Liberal Democrat plan to ensure the safety and security of our precious NHS and of course I will do what Labour are failing to do and oppose a Tory hard-Brexit that will affect us all for generations to come."

Mr Fox, a sales and marketing manager, added: "On June 8 people can vote for five more years of Tory cuts and five more years of a weak Labour opposition, or they can vote for a real change choosing an open, tolerant and united Britain by voting for the Liberal Democrats."

Sir David won the seat increasing his majority, polling 18,541 votes in 2015.
