BOLTON’S theatre lovers are all revved up for a series of big productions come to Bolton this spring.

Over the coming weeks amateur dramatic and musical societies will be battling it out for audience adoration as they hit the stage.

From this week different groups will be entertaining with musicals, mysteries, comedies and classics.

Running until Sunday is Walmsley Church AODS’s turn of Cole Porter musical High Society, Cold War love story Chess by Adlington Music and Arts Society and Leigh’s St. Joseph’s Players take on Agatha Christies Go Back for Murder.

May starts off with an outing by CATS Youth Theatre.

The junior players are bringing Cliff Richard 1960’sc classic Summer Holiday to St Catherine’s Academy in Harwood.

Technical team Simon White and Alan Dodd have designed and built a homemade bus in readiness for the production which runs from Wednesday to Saturday

Director, Louise Cohen said: “The cast have enjoyed putting this show together and are looking forward to the opening night.”

The following week three of the town’s best actors and singers will be putting on shows.

Starting on May 8 is Bolton Little Theatre’s Third Week in August. Set in a caravan park, a woman finds herself on the holiday from hell as her fellow campers clash.

The Marco Players take on Alan Ayckbourn farce Tons of Money that same week, starting on May 10.

Both shows run until May 13, and on that night BCMCS and Bolton Symphony Orchestra will join forces to celebrate The Glory of Gershwin. The one-night only concert takes place at the Victoria Hall from 7.30pm.

The following week prepares for another big run with a further three societies premiering shows.

On May 16 The Three Towns Operatic Society bring operatic classic H.M.S Pinafore and Trial by Jury to Leigh while Tyldesley Little Theatre take on thriller/comedy theft.

Thne on May 17 Horwich Amateur Theatre Society tune up fopr Broadway musical In the Heights.
