BACKING British Farming is the aim of the game at this years Bury Agricultural Show.

For the first time in its history the show will have a food hall, courtesy of Bury Young Farmers.

The young farmers took it on themselves to organise the hall in a bid to promote the show to local businesses and raise awareness of good local produce in the area, following the lead of the National Farmers Union.

The show, on Sunday, June 25, is a celebration of all things farming. There will be sheep trials, dog classes, including retrieve a sausage, as well as the showing of top horses and cattle.

Rebecca Robinson, aged 22, from Heywood, is helping to organise the food hall, she said: "Bury Young Farmers are quite involved with the show and we get a stall as long as we help set up.

"We wanted to sell local beef burgers but we couldn't because all the burger vans had already been assigned.

"So we thought about doing a local produce food hall."

So far a handful of companies have signed up to appear but there is room for between 15 and 20, along with the Young Farmers who will be selling milkshakes.

The show in the Woodhill Road park, is £7 for adults, with concessions available. Children under 12 get in free.
