A WOMAN has apologised to a court for her behaviour after admitting being drunk and disorderly.

Gillian Thompson, aged 55, of Duchess Walk, Daubhill, said: "I look after my husband, he is 76 and has had two open heart surgeries.

"A neighbour came round with a drink and I had too much.

"Since that day I've not touched a drop, I don't intend to again. I just look after my husband.

"I'm really sorry."

The court heard how police were called to her home on April 9. Thompson alleged her husband had assaulted her but independent witnesses said she had fallen over.

Police were called again later in the day and magistrates were told that Thompson was smelling strongly of alcohol, swearing and could hardly walk.

She was arrested and allowed to sober up before being charged and then bailed.

Thompson was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and ordered to pay £105 in costs and a surcharge.
