WANDERERS supporters have chosen their best player from this season.

The Bolton Wanderers Supporters Association has named defender David Wheater as its player of the season with striker Gary Madine taking the runner-up prize. The BWSA award for outstanding achievement went to the Bolton Wanderers Ladies Football Club.

Wheater has impressed at the heart of the Wanderers defence this season and has even chipped in at the other end with eight goals.

After a shaky start to life at the Macron, including a high-profile bust-up with ex-manager Neil Lennon, Madine has shone in the second half of this season and become a key part of the team.

His physical presence has been a key part of Bolton’s recent success and he has been a big miss while injured in recent weeks. Both of the players scored in last weekend’s crucial 2-0 win away to Port Vale.

The ladies team was given the accolade on the back of a stellar season which has seen them lose just one match.

Wheater was also named in the PFA League One team of the season, alongside fellow centre-back Mark Beevers.

Both Wanderers centre-halves have been key players at both ends of the pitch for Wanderers this season.
