A WOMAN was seriously injured after being beaten with a baseball bat in the second assault in a street in under two weeks.

Officers were called to Yewdale Avenue, Breightmet, shortly before 1.40pm on Saturday to reports of an assault.

A woman had been attacked with a baseball bat by a man who had then fled the scene.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, said police.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said that they were called at 1.27pm to a property in Yewdale Avenue and took a woman to Royal Bolton Hospital.

It comes less than two weeks after a man was set upon in the same street and had to be taken to hospital.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, passed by shortly after the incident on Saturday afternoon.

She said: “I was going up to the shops and then I was going to my friend’s and I saw the ambulance and I saw that something had been sectioned off.

“I saw someone on the ground, they were wrapped up in the silver sheet. I asked someone and they said that she had been beaten up with a baseball bat.

“She said she has got really bad head injuries.”

The woman added that it was a shock as she felt the area was usually quite safe.”

She said: “I think it’s safe where we are. It’s a good community but there are a few bad people around.

“There’s good and bad whether you live in Breightmet or Harwood, for example.”

A man was attacked in the same street at about 12.30am on Wednesday, April 26.

Three men set upon him, beating him in the face and legs with a weapon before fleeing the scene.

The man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital where he was treated for head injuries.

Police have not been able to confirm whether the attacks are linked. They are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information about either incident to come forward.
