CARNIVAL enthusiasts are again being asked to show their support for one of Radcliffe’s great traditions.

With less than a month to go until the 52nd annual Radcliffe Carnival, organisers are in need of volunteers to help out with numerous jobs.

Local residents are being asked to offer their services as route marshals, parade marshals, programme sellers, committee members and leaflet distributors and to take part in the parade itself.

The theme for this year’s event, which is to be held on June 3 and 4, is the Animal Kingdom.

Carnival chairman Andrew Clarkson said: “We are going along very nicely at the moment but we are still in need of more bodies to help out.

“We want to make this year’s event one to remember so I encourage everyone to get involved in one way or another if they haven’t already.

“We won’t work people too hard,” he added. “Any help at all is welcome.”

With spaces for stalls still available, Mr Clarkson said that he would like to see as many new entries as possible. “Everyone is encouraged to do something animal themed. It is the taking part that counts.”

Saturday’s parade will start at 2pm with Radcliffe Brass Band taking the lead as per tradition.

On the Sunday, a car boot will be held from 8am to 1pm which is charged at £10 per car and £15 for a van.

A car Raleigh will be held afterwards, with organisers still looking for people to join.
